Niche Blog Hosting Selection Is More Important Than You May Think
February 19, 2008
Recently, I received notification from my hosting provider that they are shutting their doors and throwing in the white towel.
Yikes!
Ok, here’s why I am worried…
One of my main money-making sites is set-up on their hosting. I’ve never had a problem with them so even though they have not been my hosting source of choice and had not had any reason to change.
I’ve been focused on building not moving. Until now of course.
So, here’s my challenge. I need to move all of the files and have it function properly without having to worry about actually doing it myself. In the past I would have done this myself but my time is better suited to pay somebody to do it.
I have the front-end of the site in Wordpress and then I have a back-end membership site set-up with aMember Pro.
Somewhat annoying to have to worry about this especially since this bad-boy has made me a pretty penny.
Reminds why I like my current choice of hosting. I use two that I find to meet all of my needs. I have two choices because I have two strategies that I follow.
- I use Blue Host for setting up Niche Blogs because it offers so much high quality features and a really great price. I love to save money and get high quality.
- Unlimited Domains
- 50+ MySQL Databases
- so much more
- Perfect for Niche Blogs
- I use Third Sphere for eCommerce portals. What I mean with this is simply I can get hosting, autoresponders, product download areas and sales cart that can be integrated with all the major credit card processors, even paypal.
So from a “lessons learned” perspective, I wish I didn’t have to worry about getting my site moved. But I guess I couldn’t plan for this.
Sometimes decisions such as your hosting may not seem important but they can be when things don’t go as planned.
Thanks
Greg

This is the first time I have heard of Third Sphere and this comes at the right time too. I am planning to set up an eCommerce site and to have hosting, autoresponders, sales cart and credit card processors all integrated seems like the way to go.
Crappy news Greg, sorry to hear it.
Blue Host appears to be an up and comer seems like more bloggers are moving in that direction. I use host gator and am very happy with them, hope they don’t decide to pack in the towel anytime soon.
Cheers and Beers Shane
P.S how ya been
Hey Shane,
How the heck are ya? It’s been awhile. I hope you are doing well. I had 7 databases a front end in wordpress and a back membership site. So needless to say I’m still in the process of moving the site.
The cool thing is that this site has been making me money for the last four years, so because I was forced to move it, I decided to upgrade it and add more quality content and see if I can’t produce more residual revenue from it.
So, it is what it is, and I’m dealing with it.
Shane, thanks for stopping by.
