5 Link Building Tips For New Websites

By Shailendra Sial

New websites strive to achieve good rankings on the various search engines. Many a times they tread on the wrong path to quickly achieve the rankings, but they end up either being sandboxed for longer duration or lingering on the search engine result pages where nobody hovers. The question here is not about being crawled but being indexed and shown on good positions.

Somewhere I read, if content is the king then links are what makes the king sit on his kingdom. This is the indisputable fact. Search engines do change their algorithms to promote more relevant results but few factors like quality inbound links always hold their importance. Higher the quality of inbound links, more link juice and authority the links passes on. Sites that have been online for many years attract a substantial amount of quality links provided they are promoted properly. But, what about the sites that are brand new? What strategy should they follow in order to get the juicy links once they go online?

Here is a list of link building tactics that put the new websites on the right foot:

1. Links from local authoritative resources – It is always better to get links from the authoritative sites which are in the geographical area of your operations. If you are a member of some business regulatory authority or some statutory establishment, a link from such sources is always important. Additionally, if there are some valuable local business directories, a link from them is highly appreciable.

2. Blogs – Starting a blog for your website is an important step towards brand building. Make sure the content you post are relevant to the website’s theme and add value to your audience’s knowledge. Further, search for other blogs with the related content and establish communication with them. Also, contact the blog owners that are not directly related to your industry but complement your content. Give important tips and advices on the related content and make it a useful resource. When people start noticing you and reckon you as an expert, you will automatically start getting quality links.

3. Article writing – Many people consider it as a sheer wastage of time but they are terribly mistaken. Write original articles on any subject you like and submit them to reputable article submission sites. These sites in turn, publish your articles on various other resources with a link to your site intact. This way you can earn backlinks at absolutely zero cost.

4. Press Releases – You are a start-up and have compelling news to announce; why not tell this to the world? The best way of doing it is to do via Press Releases. Write a quality press release or outsource it to some freelance copywriter to do the job. Once done, avail the services of reputable press release sites who will not only increase your brand visibility but will also earn you inbound links.

5. Charity and non-profit links – Does your company’s business model incorporate philanthropy? If yes, make charitable donations to non-profit organizations and get your site listed on their donors’ list web page. These kinds of links are normally ever lasting and pass good amount of quality link juice.

There are many other strategies to make the new website achieve rankings but when those tactics are not implemented properly, all hard work gets wasted. It is very important especially for a new website to legitimately carry out the promotion or else all implementation run into rough weather.
